Profibus is a world wide leading fieldbus system and is on the market for over 20 years. The overall amount of nodes does exceed 30 million and an accelerated increased growth is visible. The popular Profibus slaves are available for any imaginable task and the easy technology change-over to Profinet ensures the investments for the future.

Characteristics of the Kithara Profibus Master

  • PROFIBUS Master (DP-Master V1 Class 1)
  • Standard-link: SubD jack 9-pole
  • Baud rate between 9.6 KBaud and 12 Mbaud is possible
  • Master can be a part of a multi-master topology
  • Up to 125 slaves

Data exchange of the Kithara Profibus Master

  • Cyclical data exchange:
    - up to max. 7168 bytes
    - 244 input and 244 output bytes per slave
  • Acyclical communication (Profibus-Master DP V1 Class 1):
    - Transfer of up to 240 bytes per read and write command
  • Signaling of alarm messages
    - up to 32 alarms per slave per type
  • Alarm types: Pull-Plug alarm, Process alarm, Diagnose alarm, Status alarm, Update alarm, manufacturer specific
  • Timeout monitoring in master and slaves

The developer can configure the Profibus Master comfortably using the graphical definition of the Profibus system. An easy parameterization of master, slave and Profibus parameters saves time and enables a user friendly creation of configuration files for using Profibus in real-time. Settings can be reviewed by a plausibility check.

  • Utilization of the fail-safe characteristics from slaves
  • Synch mode allows the synchronous setting of outputs and reading of inputs in up to 8 groups
